There are plenty of advantages of running an online business but there are quite a few downsides as well.
One of the important things that might hurt your online business is the lack of direct communication between your employees and your customer.
Normally, you do not get to meet each other, and know them; this is exactly where a staff directory might come handy. This will give you a chance to help your customers know your employees a little bit.
Creating an efficient Staff Directory in WordPress
To get going with the process, you will have to get the Staff list plugin. This plugin is completely free to use. Once you have completed the installation and activation of the plugin, you are ready to get started.
Now go to your Dashboard, Go to Staff List and then to Admin Page. Once you are on that page, click on Quick Start.
You will have an option to create your own staff template. Enter a name and click on “Create Records”.
Once you are done with this step, it will create a template with the name of your choice and will add 3 members by default.
You can view your Staff Template from the dashboard menu. To configure the template according to your choice and need, click on “Edit”.
You will get the layout for the staff page, single page profile layout for each staff, shortcodes, field order, etc.
To customize your staff template, use the input-fields section. This will help you customize staff profile. Normally, you will have 6 fields added by default: Name, Position, Department, Phone, Email, and Staff Profile.
If you want, you can customize the display options, style the fields, and change the labels.
So, apparently you have your customized staff template. Now you can start adding your staff profiles and customize them. You can find Staff Members from your dashboard.
By default there should 3 members available; to change their profile, click on “Edit”. This section will let you customize all member data that you wish to change. You can upload photos and manage profile pages as well.
Now to customize the Single Page profile content, you will need to proceed in a similar process like the profile list page.
This page also comes with 6 default input fields which can be customized to configure the individual profile pages for your staff.
Whatever information you enter here, it will be reflected on the corresponding employee profile. Now you can add separate images for your member listing page and individual profile page.
You can even add some basic SEO option for the single page and member profile page as well. You can even change the URL format of the pages, add titles to the pages.
Once done with the editing, make sure to click on “Update” button, to ensure that every team member profile is updated. The next step will be to add new team members.
Well, to do so, click on the button that says “Add New”. You will need to enter your member’s name at the very beginning.
Now choose the template you wish to go with from the sidebar located on right side of your
Fill up all the necessary information in those 6 default fields; once done, click on “Publish”. This will add your new team member to your staff list. To add more, you will need to repeat the steps.
To publish your staff list, go to Staff List – > Staff Templates -> Edit. Once the template opens, you will have to copy the Shortcode from the right tab. Create a new page where you will see the staff list. Now add a Shortcode block to the editor.
Paste the shortcode copied from your Staff List Template, publish the page, and view how the staff directory looks on your WordPress
Once you have the Staff List, now you will need to add the Staff Member individual profiles.
Creating the team list and publishing them was really easy; to get going with this part, you will need to create another New Page that will show the individual info of each and every employee.
Go to Staff List- > Staff Templates -> Edit. Go to Single Page and find the Shortcode for single page. Copy this shortcode and go to your newly created page for showing your individual employee info. Add the Shortcode widget before you paste the copied shortcode.
Once done, you can save the page; but your work is not done yet. You will have to customize your page permalink as well. To get going with the permanent link structure, make sure to add words like bio, profil, profile, etc to your URL slug.
Go to Permalink option from the right sidebar and add any of those words as your URL. Publish the page and make sure to copy the permalink.
Go to Staff Template-> Single Page options. Paste the copied permalink to the URL field of Single Page. Once you are done with this step, make sure to update your Staff Template.
Now you will have to refresh the Permalink settings of your WordPress site. This will ensure that the pretty permalinks work fine. All you need to do is go to Settings- > Permalinks -> Click on “Save Changes”.
This should do the trick for you. Now you can visit your website and check whether your member list page works fine or not.
If the links for your single page profiles are rightly configured, the profile text should be shown as links. Well, if it does not work, you might have to go through the process once more.
